Missionary Methodist Churches of America - New Christians - Dec 2, 2008

Issue #1 – November – 2008

A team consisting of 12 members from Indiana – Mississippi and North Carolina were in Jeremie, Haiti from November 1-15 … working at the Haiti Gospel Mission orphanage and overseeing work projects on churches in St. Charles, Roseaux and at the new Jeremie Airport Church. At the Airport Church – the new security wall is in place with security gate. The Roseaux church is getting a new concrete floor and interior furniture. The St. Charles Church will get a new tin roof and concrete floor by the end of November.

The concrete and stone conversation benches were lengthened by several feet and a concrete floor was poured between them.

(Pictures are at the end of this report).

We had two newbies on this trip while others had been before.

Emmanuel Felix - known as Metson – (means: Sage- wise one –respected person), joined us for the second week to do evangelism and radio distribution. This was an especially wonderful time as some 35 Haitians came to Christ and over 70 radios were distributed. Metson is the OMSI/Radio 4VEH OpSat Director for all of Haiti.

There are now 110 children at the orphanage with several new babies. Yvrose realizes that she is at the end of current capacity and turned down a baby while we were there. One new baby – Gerline – is 15 mos. old but looks like 3 mos. She is suffering from malnourishment and some of our trippers spent time nursing her for Yvrose. She was doing much better before we had to leave.

We traveled to Roseaux, St. Charles – Leon – Dame Marie and Bon-Bon during our stay. Weather was favorable although sometimes very hot – one day reaching 102 degrees F – in the mountains. Next year we are looking into going the first two weeks of December as it is somewhat cooler then. We have several opens in our Jan/February trips if anyone is interested – one week – two, three or four.

Yvrose and Adrien are involved in a few new projects and possibilities for all of us to enjoy and participate in:

~ Sponsor A PASTOR ~

Yvrose Pierre Alexandre – founder and operator of the Haiti Gospel Mission children's orphanage in Jeremie Haiti W.I., has four churches she owns and operates for the poor people of Jeremie and surrounding areas.

#1: Haiti Gospel Mission Church of St Charles – there are some 70 attendees – sits atop a mountain some 2-1/2 hours south of Jeremie. This church has been enlarged to three times its size since we were first there in 2006. Money has been provided by various Christians from all over the U.S. since to finish it. A Donor has given us the last amount of funds we need to place a roof on it and a new cement floor – work has begun as of Nov. 4, 08.

#2: Haiti Gospel Mission Church of Roseaux – there are some 50 attendees – sits just off the Roseaux River a little over an hour south of Jeremie. We first visited this church in 2007 – it has struggled for a few years to just exist. Money has been given for furniture and a new cement floor – a front door - work began Nov. 4, 08.

#3: Haiti Gospel Mission Church of Jeremie at the Airport – there are some 60-70 attendees – has been in existence since May of 2007. Money has been given to construct the security walls and front gates – work began Nov. 3, 08. It is located ½ hour out of Jeremie.

#4: Haiti Gospel Mission Church of Jeremie – there are some 145 attendees – started several years ago. We have been involved in repainting this a couple of times – rewiring – and putting in a new entrance way over the past 4 years. This is the church where the orphanage kids attend.

From November 13th, 2008: After a trip to Bon-Bon – a fishing village along the north coast approx. one hour out of Jeremie – Yvrose was met by someone offering her a 4-acre property to build a new church on. At this time – there is no Protestant Church in this region. She was led after prayer to take them to Jeremie (Capital of Sector #7) and she gave them a $1,000 deposit (USD) toward a total purchase of $5,000. They will give her time to pay on this as she can. After it is paid for – she plans on building a church there requiring another pastor.

NOW – the facts and story: The #4 Church is currently without their pastor!

WHY? _____________?????

Yvrose pays all of the pastors $100 per month. She also provides a sack of rice once a month ($36) as well as some beans, corn and fruit from the farm when it is harvested.

The pastors are out a ways from Jeremie and rent a motorcycle taxi every Sunday for $10 round trip – they stay all day for AM & PM services.

A Jailing (Chinese-made motorcycle) 125 cc bike costs new $1200. The pastors are able to make $150 a month from other church denominations and mission organizations, provided with a new motorcycle and given a home allowance and food – much more than what Yvrose can provide.

The kid's church pastor was wooed away from Jeremie for such an offering from another mission org.

This will eventually happen to all of her pastors unless Yvrose can find a way to pay that much and provide a little better living for he and his family.

Scripture tells us in Romans that: "… for how shall they hear without a preacher." Then the Apostle Paul tells us again in I Corinthians that: "For the preaching of the Cross is but foolishness to those who will perish because they have not listened, but unto those who are saved it is the power of God." We are asking for help from churches/individuals to take on these projects.

HELP SPONSOR/ADOPT A PASTOR __$100 a month for length of service! HELP Sponsor/Purchase A MOTORCYCLE __ all for furthering the cause of Christ in teaching these young lives who will be the future of Haiti and will further the cause of Christ. Total purchase price of $1200 (USD).

ANOTHER SPECIAL PROJECT:

~ Yvrose's School for the "Abject Poor" ~
__ Jeremie, Haiti W.I. __

Yvrose PierreAlexandre – founder and operator of the Haiti Gospel Mission children's orphanage in Jeremie Haiti W.I., has started a school for the very abject poor some 2-1/2 hours south of Jeremie. This school is for ages of pre-schoolers and grades 1 thru 4.

The local private (Christian) schools in that area cost $125 a year for up to 15 years old and $180 a year for ages 16 and older.

Yvroses school cost but $1.25 for an entire year. This includes the teacher who makes $100 per month for the 9-10 months of school, paper, books, pencils, etc.

The school is an old block building which has a dirt floor, no roof or any way of getting water for drinking (we are going to provide a few water purifiers there for them).

Adrien and Yvrose believe that for $3500-$4000 USD they can put in a concrete floor, a tin roof and divide it into three classrooms. The teacher lives in Jeremie and it costs him $10 a day for a taxi (motorcycle) to get there (Yvrose also pays for this). She also provides a sack of rice once a month ($36) as well as beans and fruit from the farm when it is harvested and corn.

(NOTE): Public schools in Jeremie costs between $80 and $100 a year – BUT – there are but few of these schools available – Yvrose's children are denied admission to public schools because of her association with the American's – they say that with the Americans help – she can afford the private schools!!!!!!!!!

A Jailing (Chinese-made motorcycle) 125 cc bike costs new $1200. The teacher could make $150 a month from the government for 12 months per year once they have enough experience. This will eventually happen unless Yvrose can find a way to pay that much and provide a little better living for he and his family.

NOTE: Churches – pastors – Sunday Schools – individuals – you do not have to give "ALL" of the required funds – for … little is much when God is in it. GP while in Haiti Nov 5, 2008

On a Personal Note: Gene & Shelba Pollic – MMC commissioned missionaries and missionaries with OMS International and MFM International have lost a good deal of support recently with the economic turn down. They need some $400 a month of additional support to keep going. Expenses are not being met for their trips and they are now in deficit over $3000. When this deficit reaches $10,000 – missionaries are dismissed from their service. When the deficit reaches $5,000 – travel is shut off completely and pay is cut until the deficit is erased, if possible. Trips out of the country are paid for by Gene & Shelba – they must pay their own way as everyone else. If anyone or a church can help them with regular monthly support and/or one-time gifts – it would be greatly appreciated! Appointments for speaking at churches and church-related functions/ groups are needed – if anyone can help them reach more people with the message of spreading the Gospel in the uttermost parts of this world – please let them know.

We thank you in advance for your help.
